Week commencing 17th February 2014

                                                Thoughts
Weekend reading
Back in the days of HND I came across an inspiring artist from Scotland.  I got a lovely surprise in the paper to see her work again.

The return of the Petcha Kutcha PowerPoint Presentation!
Description : What happen?
The PowerPoint presentation now needs to be extended to 20 slides.  I began this task by a review of the tutor’s written comments on the previous 10 slide Power Point.
·         Extend analysis of recycling topic
·         The recycling practice of make do and mend
·         The recycling practice of upcycling
·         Comparative Analysis of Robert Rauschenberg & Susan Stockwell
Feelings
The weekend was spent reviewing the analysis of the recycling topic.
Evaluation
This review was the source for the Presentation annotation.  The annotation will hopefully be entertaining and informative.
Analysis
So after several drafts a semblance of a script is prepared.
The review also sourced strong imagery for the PowerPoint Presentation.  The imagery was scanned and inserted into the PowerPoint Presentation.
On Wednesday, I attended the meeting with the contact for the essay writing.  After initial discussion, we made arrangements to meet on 27 February 2014.
Action Plan
Friday class was cancelled so I can revisit the presentation preparations for next week’s class.

Feelings on
Preparation of artwork for photographs
Gathering together the degree work of the last 2 years from nooks and crevices required a lot of rummaging around but finally located most of it.
Description
The college booking request system for the camera and tripod had a little hitch.  The request had not been received by the technician.  Lucky for me no one else had booked the equipment.   So I was off and running, just like David Bailey.  Not.
Evaluation & Analysis
The next time I request a fancy camera, I will need to read the instruction book as a lot of time was spent trying to figure out the settings.  After the photographic session was completed, I downloaded the photographic imagery.  The camera settings had not produced the expected outcome, so I had to redo the photography.  In reflection the difficulties with the camera can be overcome by practice.
The College has limited access to computers with Photoshop. The photographic imagery downloaded onto my personal laptop with Photoshop programme to amend images.
Conclusion
The photographic images will be included into my portfolio.

PowerPoint Presentation
The preparation of the draft 20 slide Power Point presentation is under way.  I will need to select the best text & imagery to keep the viewers ‘interest in the recycling theme.
Next week’s class will be a tutorial for of the draft PowerPoint presentation.

Studio Practice 1
On Friday, 14th February, Valentine day saw an end to the HIV Exhibition at the Forth Valley Hospital.  I collected my artwork submission just in time for the portfolio photographic session next week.  It’s great when a plan comes together.

Week beginning -3 February 2014 - BAD3B

A big cheers to Sam, you are a star!
I would also like to send a big thank you to the people who were so helpful and supportive.  Your kindness was very much appreciated.

PDP -
The Tutor’s suggestions for improvements to PDP folder were completed.
Final brief
·         The quality paper required for the mounting of promotional materials has not arrived as yet.
·         I will need to source another supplier of quality paper.
·         The purchase of 2 mounting board has been achieved.
·          After consultation with Trevor on the best camera choice for quality portfolio photographs, I have booked a quality camera and tripod after February holiday.
·         The BAD3 work will be transported into college to be photographed.  The use of professional lighting and camera equipment will ensure the BAD3 portfolio images will meet the required standard.
·         After clarification with tutor, I will need to purchase a separate traditional portfolio.
·          The next phase will be to research to find the best quality and price for a small portfolio case.
·         A graphic designer gave a valued technical opinion of the promotional material layout, font etc.

BAD2
The return of the essay by the tutor was accompanied by written feedback and verbal suggestions.

One step in the right direction with the presentation is quickly followed by 2 steps back with the essay.   Hopefully, I can resolve these setbacks by immediately following up on the tutor suggestions.
I e-mailed the suggested contact and received their reply. The next step is to arrange a meeting after the February holiday.
