Week ending 26 September - Strictly Planning a Project

Culross

Studio Practice Unit- Planning a Project

Seeking inspiration I had a look in the Atrium Paisley were the Scottish Diaspora Tapestry told the story of scots abroad.

These Tapestries visually telling a story with imagery is an interesting concept.

Draft PLP with a Skelton time plan

It was good to get the draft PLP completed and sent to the tutors.  The Studio Practice Project’s time plan can permit the opportunity to amend the draft PLP.

Feelings
Viewing the calm Forth River at low tide with heron feeding and a swimming seal disturbing the swans, seagulls and ducks is idyllic.  But as the tide turns and begins to flow faster the birds and seals move on and so must I with the Studio Practice and Contextual studies.

The nature of the Studio Practice and Contextual studies will be inspiring and upbeat.  The project forward momentum will be supported and strengthen with by complementing the studio Practice and Contextual studies.
Evaluation
The small sketchbook visually focused ideas.  I will evaluate these focused ideas with the Personal Learning Plan (PLP) pro forma main criteria and Skelton bullet points of each proposed idea.

Week Ending 12 September 2014 – Exploring Ideas

Description

The tutor has kindly issued a copy of the studio Practice module handbook.

The Module handbook listed requirements includes:

·        A Personal Learning Plan
·        detailed time plan

The request for Forth Valley College’s Moodle website access was gratefully received. The calendar for the college can provided a template for the time plan.

Support Services
I received the Computer Laptop with Dragon computer programme and headset with microphone.  The   Completion of the speech recognition exercise has allowed word processing without any difficulties.

Thoughts and Feelings

The Dragon computer programme will be a welcome relief for writing PLP, mid module and statement of assessment.

I am exploring my thoughts on possible project ideas within a small sketchbook. Looking at Mind maps and inspirational Photography /colour images for a yearlong project for studio Practice.
Some of the photographic images are included as an introduction to separate headings.

At my tutor’s suggestion I have reviewed previous BAD projects to find a common thread throughout my artwork.

3rd Year
World Aids Day Competition brief - HIV, Alive and Well
2nd Brief theme “Emperor’s New Clothes”

Photo etching-Photographic imagery on textile and paper

Another suggestion was to consider more than 1 brief idea that allow selection of the best one.

EVALUATION
Exploring options widens:

Develop creativity / explore possibilities / design journey / interpretation / playing with samples / develop representation work
Analysis

The blog entries were a requirement for the completed PDP module and also provided an excellent basis for analysis for the course unit.

·         Brief/PLP
·         mid module
·         statement of assessment

Conclusion

The direction of all of the above stages will allow wider consideration for the Studio Practice Project.

Action Plan

I will consider 3 or 4 ideas to present as possible briefs for the project.

The sketchbook will explore ideas with a variety of visuals and art mediums.
