Blog Reflections

Blogger Reflections
The Blog’s typeface change due possible legibility issues for readers.   Hopefully all my blog reflections are interesting to read!
PDP Self-directed study: -
A Dictaphone sourced to record the class session. Dictaphone experimentation revealed limited sound and download problems.  I sought alternative recording medium solutions e.g. smart phone and Dictaphone from college supply room.  These alternative solutions revealed similar limited sound and lack of availability respectively.
After researching 3 artists for each of the 3 pathways links the information was formatted on PowerPoint with the images referenced. The PowerPoint slides printed off and inserted within PDP folder and saved onto USB for classroom display.  I discussed Dictaphone difficulties with class colleagues and with their kind co-operation I will borrow their Dictaphone.
A class colleague mentioned the tutor’s e mail notifications to BAD2 class with arrangements for the next class session and very kindly forwarded copies.
Applied Practice
The mid module tutorial consisted of tutor and 2 fellow students discussing each of our Multiple projects with suggestions on how to progress.  The tutor was given the completed mid module form followed up with an electronic mid modular form version being sent via e mail.
The mid module tutorial suggestions to improve my multiple project:-
·        Selection of the monoprint technique with straight lined silk surface pattern as the best outcome of experimentation.
·         A large scale version of selected surface patterns
  • Consider other alternatives for presentation.
EXPERIMENTATION
Large scale monprinted straight lined satin surface pattern/ alternative presentation

Applied Practice Devore Workshop
The chemical burned out process with Velvet:-
  • Apply devore paste to backing of the Velvet fabric with brush
  • Wait till dry
  • Place velvet between Parchment paper
  • Ironed to activate the paste
  • Wet and wash the fabric
This week I learnt that a Dictaphone for mid module tutorials would be helpful to recap and class comrades provide essential course information.

APPLIED PRACTICE

Tutor Workshop: - Felting

EDINBURGH BUILDINGS SKETCHES
Sketchbook research of various art mediums provided fine line drawings of Edinburgh buildings for further experimentation within Photoshop.

By scanning & importing the drawings into the Photoshop programme I have miraculously manipulated layers to achieve various surface patterns.
The Fined lined drawing surface pattern copied onto paper as template reference.
The surface pattern template transferred via:
  • Fine line pen onto Arabic gummed tracing paper

·      Black gutta

INSPIRATIONAL ARTISTS

INSPIRATIONAL ARTISTS
After seeking out tutor for next PDP task, I am focusing contemporary art and visual communication artists that link with my craft pathway.  A starting point is networking or in other words, bugging the tutors & visual communication pathway students.

Applied Practice
Learning activities: Mono printing
Drawing building imagery onto material provides both positive and negative imagery .   Imagery process is lengthy and difficult to see the result until material is lifted off ink. The quality of produced mono prints depends on several factors e.g. movement of material.
Photoshop surface pattern difficulties
 I Sought advice via tutor.
Examples of solutions:

FRIDAY NIGHT AT THE PICTURES

I finished the youth group art project so “I’m free”. Off to the pictures to see “Quartet”.  It’s great to see a main stream picture with older actors.

A big thank you to a fellow student for helping me with Photoshop programme.

BAD24 PDP & BAD22 Applied Practice Update

Blog Reflections
Reflection on learning activities for this week began by looking at fellow comrades’ blogs. I have reflected that my blog needs some changes to make it at least readable.  The change in font size & shape might help but the contents depend on me!
PDP learning activity:-
·      Who-Identity of at least 3 internationally significant  practitioners in each pathway
·      What- forms does their work take what is their approach to practice
·      What-forms does their work take what is their approach to practice
·      Where- Do they practice & how
·      Why- Are they and their work significant
PowerPoint information files downloaded from Moodle.  After reading I organised 3 separate computer files of: -
  • Applied Craft
  • Visual Communication
  • Contemporary Art Practice
I researched past sketchbooks scrapbooks for inspirational artists leading to a very messy room! The sketchbooks you want are always at the bottom of the box.
A large quantity of research work to answer all the task questions.  The task difficulties will be finding artists out with craft pathway and finding internationally significant practitioners.
The most important thing that I have learned is to refer more to my old sketchbooks for inspiration and seek out my fellow course comrades from different pathway courses!
Applied Practice Learning Activity:-

Photography tips from telly has improved images for sketchbook.  The imagery onto this blog is still tricky.  Technology is wonderful eh!!
Glass Workshop with Tutor: - Excellent results both individually & combined.

NETWORK MAP IN MY ACADEMIC WORLD ANALYSIS
This analysis begins with my network map and continues by making connections with the network maps of my fellow degree group concluding with the common goals with each network map.
The personal network map imagined a walk along the yellow brick road to Oz. A walk through past academic courses gained a brain for the scarecrow and continued on to gain the tin man’s heart to embark on the higher diploma.  The higher diploma success provides the lion’s courage to apply for the present day degree.  The future represented by a balloon degree journey that covers a craft pathway and has an over the rainbow destination of art therapy.
The analysis of the network maps connections with fellow degree companions highlights the common goals within each of our degree pathway. The shared common goals are to progress into the degree’s 3rd year with a free and relaxed attitude.

Learning spaces and art classes are desired network map connections for my degree’s journey.  I can explore creative practice with a wide variety of art mediums that include textiles with fellow degree companions listing these connections.
The network map connection with volunteering will be explored within the degree journey.   These network maps increase opportunities to improve my learning and allow skill improvement that help in the successful completion of the  BA Art & Design.

In conclusion, the network map in my academic world analysis provides opportunities to connection with fellow degree companions so that we can expand and explore common goals together.  Each connection contributes various ideas to enhance my degree journey and introduce personal connections with my fellow degree companions. Finally, the network maps connections in our degree journey will provide each of us with our own over the rainbow destinations.
