Studio Practice 2
The Conversion of the
audio recording was achieved with the help of tutors. The sound recordings wav format converted
into MP3. It’s a kinda magic.
The MP3 audio format
conversion cannot be downloaded onto the blog. The technical aspect of audio
recording is proving difficult and time consuming. As the
time plan is ticking I will need to
decide on the audio aspect of project.
Tick tock!
Analysis
Development Ideas - Textiles
Textiles colours, pattern, man made or natural
have cultural associations. These
cultural associations trigger :
·
universal
memories
·
Unique
personal stories
·
Threads
of life
Textiles obvious, visible Symbols links to Barthes
Mythologies. The “everyday" Semiotics.
Textiles – Reverse Applique
Layers of recycled
textiles creates a vivid palette.
Reverse applique both conceals and reveals abstract layers of textiles. The emerging recycled textiles mark the
passing of time. The narrative of changes
in textiles recalls or captures memories.
Evaluation
The final presentation
may have more than 1 art work displayed.
I will consider alternatives in
development

Development Ideas
3 Dimensional Folds Mannequin
The photomontage of
clothing created an abstract background. The abstract background was the border
frame that gave depth to the composition. The composition layout allowed the viewers
eye to rest on the negative spaces by isolating the focus onto the central photographic
image.

QR
A layer of QR audio
communication would give a dynamic avenue for the composition. The audio can be absorb into project and
increase the ability to communicate the theme of identity and memories.

Digital Technical
Challenges continued with my personal computer accessing internet within the
college.
A call into the
Learning Resource Centre resolved the issue.
A big thank you for the help given by the very patient staff, especially
James. A very patient guy who pressed
all the right buttons on the computer.

The previous audio
download onto this blog had technical difficulties. ( in other words - it didn’t
work ha ha).
Tutors, Paul and Kyle ,

I was not in class on
Friday due to personal circumstances. I had
notified the tutor who very kindly e-mail my extended essay proposal feedback. A positive feedback is a bright spot.

Studio Practice 2
A review of samples to select the best ideas led to develop ideas with paper
3d folds.
Development Ideas
3 D paper folds
The paper had double sided photocopies of abstract imagery of clothing.
·
The
paper abstract imagery had several copies, cut into squares, folded and glued
together. The expanding 3d folds had
isolated photographic imagery to give focus.
The folds conceal and reveal imagery represents the identity of person
is conceal with memory loss is revealed with visual triggers.
·
The
3d folds with abstract imagery developed into fortune teller game. The paper game can trigger memories of old
school playground games.
Smart Phone - QR
The technical
difficulties with digital recorder audio download continues and will require
further discussion with tutor.
A temporary solution
to audio recording with computer. The computer
audio was linked to photographic imagery using Movie maker.
The movie maker with
audio and photographic imagery was downloaded onto the blog. The blog site website copied and downloaded
onto the free QR website.
The free QR website
issued the scan code and was copied to access the link to blog site. The QR scan code did link onto the blog but
the audio is not playing.
Back to the drawing
board. Another meeting with Tutor to
discuss the technical aspects of QR links.
Quilting
Research for quilting

Quilter on the technical challenges and sourcing books for instructions. An opportunity
to extend knowledge and skills balanced with time plan considerations.

The memories of the photographic

computer encountered technical difficulties.
Lets just say I have to digitally record the entire process again. The spider tries, tries and tries again.

Sample Development - Analysis and Evaluation
Thinking of the PLP
aims to create mixed media textile piece that reflect the themes of personal identity through memory. I recognise the essential principles
and elements of good composition will be needed in the process of
design.
I have made use of photographic family ablum. Black and white imagery layered in a
Photomontage composition communicate an abstract
style.
The photomontage
composition isolated clothing to communicate a sense of self and place. The memory of emotional experiences at events
transferred to clothing worn at the time.
The Photomontage
composition required development of style, dynamic focus , shape, images
and colour. I developed the Photomontage
composition by isolation of individual photograph to give a dynamic focus .

I am exploring QR scanning with smart phones. This may resolve the audio presentation difficulties in previous projects. I was kindly given a tutorial with instructions on the process. The next stage will be to attempt the process. Fingers crossed.
Isobella Walker Tutorial – Reverse Applique Sample
The practical demonstration of reverse Applique provide a sample and a possible solution for the project. The tutorial reveals equipment required and the safe working practices are required for this process.

Development
Tokens of textiles taken to photo montage with clothes representing ordinary and familiar that have personal associations .
Access to Mac Photoshop via college - Sections of photographs, layers of copy, isolate clothes. I will require technical practice to prefect techniques. An alternative option with old tech with enlarging Photocopied prints, cutting out clothing and pasting with glue stick created an unexpected outcome with the remaining imagery.

Studio Practice 2
I approached college tutor to investigate the possibilities for the project. The time for this process will be extensive
and required Photoshop expertise. The
scanning of photographic images, assessment of imagery grayscale, selection of
appropriate imagery for placement.
This Photoshop process will require extensive time to learn techniques and
to complete a final outcome. I will explore other project possibilities
before committing to this project solution.
Research – Quick Response
As possible audio solution I will need to explore QR to find out if this is
a viable option. I have an appointment
with a college tutor for next week to discuss the technical process.

it a coincidence that contextual research reading of John Berger’s “Ways of seeing”

Another
coincidence with Grayson Perry’s Channel4 television series on identity entitled
