Studio Practice 2

The reading week provided the ideal time to prepare the mid-module pro forma.  So the mid module pro forma is all typed up and ready to submit to tutors. 

I have touched base with the graphic student who is helping with a professional business card for the exhibition.  We will be meeting up soon to discuss ideas.   

The audio recording of the sound story has downloaded onto the website.

Feelings

 The photographic acetate and textiles  represent the memory swatches of our identity.  The sustainability of the project with recycled textiles will be achieved with an upcycled project of found objects. 

Evaluation

Clothing tells a story to society with symbols of self and place. The ethic of recalling lost memory and lively communication links to the celebratiory response of the project and to the Contextual theme of  identity and memory

The  weakness is a viewer might not understand the meaning.  The lost of emphasis to textiles is another weakness. 

Conclusion

The family photographs  need to be the focus of the story.  Textiles layers with negative images will strengthen focus of project. 

Action Plan

An opportunity to focus on photographs and meet the aims of the project that were inspired by the family album  

Contextual Studies

The draft essay has been reviewed by tutor and his feedback has good points and bad points.  So back to the drawing board again.  I am remaining positive.

After difficulties accessing the college e-mail I discovered that the college technicians had disconnected it.  After the college e-mail was re-activated I resubmitted the draft essay to the tutor and await feedback

Description of Process

Apple Mac Computer Fine Cut Pro programme created audio and image file to download onto blog

Analysis of Process

 This download failed as the file size was too big,  Discussion with tutor led to abandoning blog for QE coding link to the audio sound story. 

 

Evaluation of Process



Consider Alternatives :

• Create a smaller file size in Fine Pro Cut  will require access to Apple Mac and tutor.
• Write audio story into presentation piece
• Investigate download of sound onto Website and linking QR coding 

Week ending 9 January 2015 – Happy new year

 

Wishing all a Happy New Year.

The Middlefield campus is being demolished as we speak – a sad occasion for all who attended the place. It may have been a bit leaky but it was a fun time. 

Studio Practice 2

After discussion with course tutors the deadline for the mid module will be delayed.  The mid module form downloaded from the college’s moodle site.   

Development ideas

Printing textiles – consider :

Silkscreen

Etching

Image transfer

Purchase via computer own textile design – Spoonflower / CAT

Presentation Ideas

Clothing/ soft furnishings – possible solutions

Discussion with printing technician :–

·         process of photographic image onto acetate. 

·         Layer onto silkscreen for textiles with print room machinery.

·          Use of textile inks have a thicker consistency

·         Availability of print room & specialist equipment,
 

Weakness :- Physically demanding, loss of definition on textiles.  Consider paper.

Etching

Lengthy process with photographic imagery. the use of intaglio ink.   

Weakness:- Impact of  a physically demanding process.

Image Transfer

Various methods :-  gels and ink jet photocopier

Weakness:- cost of materials

Evaluation

Loss of definition with silkscreen and etching processes can be represent a metaphor for loss of memory.  The cost of the image transfer can be reduced by sourcing materials via internet.

Due to bad weather conditions I was unable to attend the class.

Week Ending 26 December 2014 – Return of the draft essay

Contextual Studies

Due to personal circumstances the college tutor kindly extended the submission date of the draft essay. 

The disruption to the threads of concentrations has led to difficulties with the draft essay.

These difficulties were eased by the college computer with dragon, read and speak programmes.
