Week ending 9 January 2015 – Happy new year


 
Wishing all a Happy New Year.
The Middlefield campus is being demolished as we speak – a sad occasion for all who attended the place. It may have been a bit leaky but it was a fun time. 
Studio Practice 2
After discussion with course tutors the deadline for the mid module will be delayed.  The mid module form downloaded from the college’s moodle site.   
Development ideas
Printing textiles – consider :
Silkscreen
Etching
Image transfer
Purchase via computer own textile design – Spoonflower / CAT
Presentation Ideas
Clothing/ soft furnishings – possible solutions

Discussion with printing technician :–

·         process of photographic image onto acetate. 

·         Layer onto silkscreen for textiles with print room machinery.

·          Use of textile inks have a thicker consistency

·         Availability of print room & specialist equipment,
 
Weakness :- Physically demanding, loss of definition on textiles.  Consider paper.
Etching
Lengthy process with photographic imagery. the use of intaglio ink.   

Weakness:- Impact of  a physically demanding process.
Image Transfer
Various methods :-  gels and ink jet photocopier

Weakness:- cost of materials
Evaluation
Loss of definition with silkscreen and etching processes can be represent a metaphor for loss of memory.  The cost of the image transfer can be reduced by sourcing materials via internet. 

Contextual Studies
Due to bad weather conditions I was unable to attend the class.
