Week ending 27 March 2015 – Mid module review

Studio Practice 2
Description
This week time plan had been reserved for the tutor’s request to prepare a final construction template to discuss. The preparation of the template of the final construction required intensive work.
The issue of safeguarding the transportation of templates resolved with a large portfolio case. The large size of the portfolio case eliminated the possibility of carrying other art materials into college.

Feelings
I had assumed the Studio Practice 2 Project’s time planned mid module review would be for full time students
As a part time student I had submitted my mid Module form and received confirmation from the tutor.

A rule of thumb for a part time student is never assume.

Evaluation
The mid module review with the tutor and my 2 of fellow colleagues presented opportunities to discuss all our projects.    This was a privileged opportunity to gained insight to their projects and allowed our alternative viewpoints to explore other options.
It was a privilege to listen to my talented colleagues show and describe their inspiring projects

 Analysis
I found it rewarding to receive alternative suggestions and positive feedback from my fellow student colleagues’.

Conclusion
I will take forward the photographic imagery acetate overlay with textile image transfer.

Layers
Getting to the construction stage of Studio Practice 2 has need of foundation for guidance and practical planning.

Health and Safety:
Preparation of area
To prevent marking the studio wall a layer of newspaper print was placed under the soluble water material   I sourced and placed the overhead projector with the help of my colleagues and staff member.

Photographic imagery
The projection of the A4 photographic acetate imagery outlined with pen the void imagery onto the water soluble material.

Safe working practices for sewing machine stitching of vertical and horizontal grid.
Machine stitching of grid lines shrinks the imagery outline.  The outline imagery hand embroidery secured the horizontal and vertical grid lines.

Analysis
The practical procedures are lengthy and time consuming that required assistance.  Other options will need to be considered.  I will prepare a template of the final construction to discuss with tutors.
It seems to me that the project’s loss of memory theme is becoming more prominent in the media.  This was demonstrated by a BBC Scotland’s radio programme.
The programme highlights the difficulties with memory loss when eating out in restaurants.   A simple positive solution that enable the person with memory loss and their families.  A solution that adapts the surroundings of a restaurant will give opportunities to socialise and reduce their sense of isolation.
My Project interest in sustainable practice was caught by radio discussion with Katherine Hamnett. http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b055jmv5

 Action Plan
Prepare final construction template for next week
The time plan for my colleagues requires submission of the mid module next week.  As I have previously submitted my mid module for tutorial feedback I will need to confirm if I am required to complete any official procedures.  This will help avoid a repeat of the revised PLP difficulties.

Contextual Studies

The Studio Practice 2 research has been strengthen by Contextual Studies research.

Week ending 13 March 2015 – Ayes of March

Studio Practice 2
Feelings

At this point in the project’s time plan I was to proceed with the development construction stage.   However, it was necessary to give reflective time to give perspective to the project.   I am reminded that in the greater scheme of things this is a project as other considerations take precedence in my life.
Evaluation
A discussion with tutors Dot and Isabella has given another perspective on the external examiners comments.  The answer is in the Experimental and Development sketchbook and Research folder.

Development

Looking over the Mood board, Sketches, Samples, Development ideas, Development and Construction I realised that I need to take a step back.
Research folder
Review of the research folder included memory themed artists and Contextual Studies investigations of Norma Starszaknowna and Cas Holmes.

Research suggested by the external examiner: Sonia Delaunay
By taking this step back I am returning to the development of paper photomontage.

Analysis of Paper Photomontage
The paper photomontage imagery cut out a layer of negative space.  The void suspension of imagery with a variety of paper and textile thread.

Contextual Studies
Final compulsory power point Presentation of 20 slides. 20 seconds per slide.  Attempts to include the slides I the blog are proving difficult.

All students who presented their slide show have passed.

The essay continues to simmer away.
