Feelings
The rings of time
The time plan is back on track as I will
begin to construction the artwork for exhibition.

Construction
Colour
Acetate Photocopy
The selection of the colour acetate photocopy
is warmer and more representative of the photograph. The
coloured acetate will be placed over layers of textiles with photographic imagery.
2nd coloured acetate
The 2nd coloured acetate made
use of Photoshop to isolate and eliminate image to create a void.
Water
Soluble Stabilizer
The void of memories represented by the black thread outline of photographic imagery with white weave of horizontal and vertical lines.
This void of thread suspension had not achieved
a stable image. I will attempt a 2nd
water soluble stabilizer to address stability issues.
This work has reminded me of my Multiples
project that researched black work embroidery.
QUERY ON CONTEXTUAL
ARTIST - CHARLENE MULLEN BLACK WORK EMBROIDERY
The mid module feedback had suggested a change
of thread colours from white and black to match the sepia photographic images. This colour thread change will add a harmonic
tone to the work.
A plastic stabiliser provided a better visual
record of the cream thread coverage. I ensured
that the cream thread placement was more random to ensure the stability of the
image.
The coverage of cream thread with an
embroidery hoop required college access to specialist sewing machine. I arranged access via tutor. However,
difficulties with sewing machine and the length of time required for a more random
stitch coverage will require further access to college facilities.
SWOT
(Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and threats) Analysis
Colour
Acetate
The
process of selecting the textile layers to represent the sense of sense of self
and place with photographic imagery.
2nd
Acetate – Void
A selection of voids under the
acetate.
An opportunity to share my project with a
fellow student Caroline Jones BAD2 revealed similarities with her work in textiles
and photographs. This opportunity opened
another avenue of research direction.

Lost & Found Project
is a beautiful site and project salvaging photos lost and damaged in the 2011
tsunami that hit Japan. Take some time reading about the project on the
site. Here is a little piece from the introduction:
Should we be happy that they were found at all, or sad that they will never be returned to their owners? Or should we simply mourn for the dead? The more I struggle to find answers, the more missing pieces I seem to find."
Presentation
Ideas
Upcycling window frames for a light box
will be abandoned. The 2 window frames were not the same and will not achieve a professional
finish.
Alternative
solution
The
presentation of the 2 acetates within floating mounts without light box.
Water
soluble stabiliser
The presentation of threaded void black
work will be as a tapestry. The threaded
stabiliser will be hung from a curtain rod and weighted at the bottom to
prevent movement.

Business
Cards
I am hoping to meet up with David after Easter
break to finalise the business card.
QR Coding
The placement of the QR coding to access audio story.
Health
& Safety
- The fire retardant spray will not be required. As the 3 fold paper will not be at a fire exit.
- Storage box for sketchbooks and research folder.
Conclusion
The positive comments from colleagues has inspired confidence to progress the project from development to construction.
The ongoing review of research has led to a
sourcing alternative solutions.
Action
Plan
·
After the random stitching is
completed the stabiliser will shrink in size.
·
Use the overhead projector to
outline the photographic imagery onto the stabiliser. The outline of imagery will be stitched with
dark brown thread
·
The previous stabiliser had
experienced difficulties after water was applied. The thread became sticky and attached itself
to the towel. I have purchased curtain poles to hang the stabiliser
before applying water.
·
As an alternative to the stabiliser
I have sourced alternative solution.
