Sized Acetate Imagery
The Project work accessed photocopying facilities at Falkirk campus. The copier printed varied sized acetates to consider as an alternative finish for the Textile and mixed media artworks.

Business
Cards
The Project business cards were finalised
by my college friend and ordered online. After discussion with the tutor as to
the suitability of the business card I decided to cancel the order. The first online transaction was cancelled
and reimbursed.
The 2nd business card was
created via a website using imagery from the project. This business card has
been ordered and I await delivery.
Audio
Recordings MPEG4i
The recording of the sound on a smart
phone created an MPEG4i audio file. This
file format cannot be downloaded onto my website. I needed to find a way to convert the audio
file into MP3. I attempted to convert the file with the audacity
programme without success.
A tutorial consultation was unable to find a solution. I spoke to my class colleague Mhairi Muir. It is only with her kind support and
expertise that the MPEG4i file was converted into MP3.
A big thank you to my friend Mhairi –you are
a shining star. http://mhairim.blogspot.co.uk/?m=1
The audio recording were downloaded as
MP3 to my website http://sheenartu.wix.com/sheenarts
I attached the audio recordings to the
relevant photograph image. http://sheenartu.wix.com/sheenarts#!sound-story-/cpaw
After adjusting the website layout I then
sourced a website with free QR coding. I
acquired the QR coding download for each photograph.
This QR coding will be included within
the textiles and mixed media artwork with layers of photography, textiles and
found objects.
Dementia
As
this project aims to raise awareness of memory loss I had hoped to include
information leaflets as part of my exhibition.
I have asked and received
permission from the college to include official leaflet information about
memory loss.
I made enquiries to a
representative of Alzheimer’s Scotland about including information leaflets as
part of degree exhibition and they have very kindly
supplied numerous information leaflets.
After reading through these leaflets I have selected 2 leaflets
and requested approx. 50 copies.
The Alzheimer’s Scotland representative
informed me that the Dementia Awareness week will be 1 – 7 June 2015. As the exhibition dates will be early June this
coincidence could not have been planned better.
3D
folds
The master collaged imagery copied onto A3 carriage paper. I am attaching each square to each other with double sided tape.
The next step is preparing the photographic
imagery to fit into the 3D fold squares.
Exhibition
Presentation ideas
I have arranged to call in to the picture framers to begin mounting the artwork.
I
attended an exhibition event for 'Fantasia' by Fabrizio Gianni at the Park
Gallery.
The college corridor ceiling are
too high to access. I will need to
consider another location or consider wall brackets to hang the 3D folds. I have purchased fishing line to hang the 3D folds.
I have requested tutor
advice to consult on allocation of presentation locations.
Statement
of Assessment
I will attend the PDP class to assist with
the statement of assessment and will review the project with the help of
this blog.
Feelings
I am grateful for all the great assistance from college colleagues, tutors, technicians and many
other people.
Evaluation
The artwork construction has
presented an opportunity to consider the finer details of the project. The visual connections between
matching chrome curtain rail for the embroidery tapestry curtain and the chrome fittings
of the floating mounts.
The 2nd random
embroidery piece will be a layered inclusion throughout the 3 floating
mounts. This will link the embroidery tapestry
with the floating mounts.
The 2nd random embroidery
required access to the college’s sewing machine. The acetates and carriage paper required
access to a working photocopier.
Analysis
Various
Acetate Sizes
As the photocopier produces different colour
quality.
Embroidery
Tapestry
I have considered that the embroidery
threads fragility and distortion can represent the fragile threads of memory which
can be distorted and disappear. The
textile artwork is a non-threatening medium that is familiar to everyone. By presenting as an embroidery I aim to raise
awareness of memory loss in a non-threatening manner.
The embroidery will raise awareness of
memory loss with positivity by asking the viewer to put themselves in the
picture about the many types of memory loss.
The embroidery outlined figures can visually put the viewer in the
picture. This visual can put the viewer
in the artwork and see themselves as the person who has memory loss. By seeing the person with memory loss as an
individual we have a conversation about their individual care needs. By talking about the different types of
memory loss we can lessen the stigma in the community.
Business
Cards
The discussion with the tutor highlighted
difficulties with the original business card font legibility.
Audio
Recordings MPEG4i
The MPEG4i recordings were via a smart
phone. I will need to ensure that future
audio recordings are via voice recorder as a WAV file because I can convert to MP3 recordings with
the aid of audacity programme.
Dementia
The contribution of leaflets information I
have received from Alzheimer’s Scotland is greatly appreciated.
3D
folds
Ensure the accuracy of the folds requires
patience but the effect has received positive comment.
Conclusion
The project is on track with the time
plan and in the final straight to the exhibition.
