Stitch in Time

The "Childhood Explored" Project continues with a little bit of luck in purchasing a recycled sewing machine sourced from college friend Sam.

Positivity Beyond the Mid Module

The college day brightened by a visiting friend restored project positivity. This positivity reflected in improved sewing machine skill level.  Yippee!
Therapeutic browsing of library shelves reveals magazine sources for textile art “Crafts. The magazine for contemporary craft” that is a good excuse for a cuppa tea and a read.  Bliss!
New Experience with Class Comrades
As a part time student Contextual studies omitted from my timetable.  The unit is completed and with permission entered the class for research for Integrated Unit.
This interesting session was an insightful dimension for research with homework for next week.  This is my welcome to a brave new world eh!
Image Transfer Process
The Class tutor kindly provided an exciting image transfer process with laser printed image that brings an interesting visual aspect to the project.

Primary Research
A sunny day at the seaside exploring the beach environment inspired by Andy Goldsworthy.  Ah the hardships of research.

A fine day exploring the beach is joined by 2 young children aged 3 and 4.   Their enthusiastic contribution of shells, seaweed and various beach materials brings a truth to the project theme of a young child exploring a seascape

Mid module already !

The college printer at the college was working and printed off duplicate mid module form yipee.  Great to see my old comrades in arms again.

Handed over form to tutor at group discussion.  Ah the joy of all  3 poor souls discussing our selected art projects - lucky for me nobody laughed at mine (always a good sign) .

The wait for the meeting is always the worst and I spend the time with knitting sample.

The next day Murphy's Law reveals omitting certain art materials from bag is always the materials you need!

The sewing machine tutorials are going well - not.
  • 1st sewing  machine switched on  (  very technical aspect sometimes forgotten).  Press foot petal to power the little needle to up and down and nothing.
  • 2nd sewing machine with threading required. A baffling process of up, down ,round about, ending with this blind bat not finding the eye of the needle.
Is it a sign to rethink the sewing machine process?  Mmm lets think about that - the purchase of  a sewing machine is on the back burner.

Never mind in the real world the cinema visit to oblivion seem appropriate.

A big thank you for taking the time to discuss your processes.

Easter's Gone gone

The Easter bunny has disappeared along with the2 week holiday. Yes the time has come for all good people to face the music or in our world the MID MODULE MEETING.

Gathered from a dark space (moddle) the pro form has been filled in.  Lets hope the college printers are working as true to form the old printer at home has decided to call a strike.  I know that technology is not out to get me but sometimes ....

yo ho ahoy

A few pictures of the  textile art creative process for "Childhood Explored" brief... (too much?)
Wax crayons (raided kid's crayon supply )

More sweetie papers. When you are on a roll with research..

  • Health and safety issues for slash and burn technique.

Signs and symbols

As Easter Time Flies by so does the Contextual Project.

Samples progresses on with a sign for a break . This sign is the felting  needle breaking and replacement following suit.  A cultural break with  "G I Joe" purely for further research ha ha.
