Week 4 setting the scene

Studio Practice 1

Setting the scene of the project with the Chine colle printing process experimentation with paper and cotton material. The printing process continued with relief printing onto textiles. The varied outcomes provided opportunity for concept development.

Concept development Experimentation

The photographic imagery of red ribbon in the local area enhanced with Photoshop techniques sourced from tutor, Isabella Walker. A big thank you for your help.

The photographic images transferred onto textiles with Image Transfer techniques of cellophane and fabric paste.

The concept idea of holistic health and wellbeing commissioned poetry and sourced copyright free reiki music.

The commission poem written in fabric pens and embroidery onto relief printed textiles provided interesting outcomes. The music “Natural Tranquillity” sourced from Staff member A Johnston was combined with Photographic images.

The challenge of combining music and photography was helped by Tutor Rob.McDermitt with Apple Mac techniques.

The Cyanotype printing process continued with Photographic imagery converted into negative imagery. The negative imagery was laser photocopied onto acetate.

The Cyanotype Process preparation required a dark room. The photo sensitive chemicals were put onto textiles with the help of Tutor, Catherine King

3rd week - Setting the mood board

3rd week - Setting the Mood Board

Setting the mood board will give a visual focus for the brief’s theme HIV, Alive & Well.
The Personal Learning Plan keeps the project on the straight and narrow pathway of applied craft design with a textiles and mixed media project.
Researching Live Brief theme: HIV, Alive and Well
The research raised concept ideas and The Brief theme reading material raised a few eyebrows at the local library.
The Textile pathway Researched a New TV series (s) 7311876 on BBC4 “Fabric of Britain” 9.00pm Wednesday 18 September.
Insightful reminders of fashion and music with Channel 4 (s)743440 “80s Rewind The Tube” Friday 20 September.
Concept development Ideas
Inspiring Research combined with Concept ideas.
The Time planned project requires preparation and organisation.  Flexibility for glitches and giggles helps make a project fun.
Ideas for concept development
The photographic images of red ribbon within the local community.

The environmental artist, Andy Goldsworthy inspired photographic imagery of iconic shaped red berries.

Park Gallery advert inspires environmental art
Ideas for concept development
These images inspired Audio and visual concept ideas.
Research begins with a big thank you to tutors and technicians for their time.
Concept Ideas Experimentation
Printing processes began with Preparation of Arabic gum onto tracing paper.   The Chine colle printing proccess was kindly demonstrated by Class comrade, Harmony.  We listened to music CDs while we worked for audio concept ideas
PDP
The class began with Tutor Blog feed-back for 3 class colleagues. Regrettably, Moodle access glitches blogged my blog.
The seminar meeting with class colleagues’ produced a wide range of research contributed by each person.  This Research that can be incorporated and further developed in next week’s directed study.
Critical & Contextual Studies
Interesting lecture with lively group discussion for a Scottish superhero Up Up and Och Aye!

2nd week - Brief reflections

On reflection of the Brief theme of HIV, Alive and Well and the recommended websites gained a jumble of ideas and emotional insight of personal experiences.

A refuel of fun and brain cells requires a tip top fishy diet at my first sushi restaurant.
A wasabi experiment required a flower tea to cool my “mooth”.

A seed of an idea for the mind map, Personal learning Plan (PLP) and time plan.
A ticking time planned PLP gathers no moss by Primary research preparation: - Charging digital camera, phone and gathering sketchbook, watercolours, cassette audio recorder (Digital not working).  Yes Folks a cassette recorder!  Old technology working is adeptly proven by “Voyager” Space probe leaving our solar system.  Do you think it’s too late to join it?
The beginning of Primary Research:
·         local Shops, sourcing & Pricing Materials for Project costs ££££
·           Site Visit to NHS Forth valley Hospital Larbert :

This inspiring research aided the completion of draft PLP and time plan within submission deadline to tutor.  Tutor feedback of draft PLP suggested redraft.  The best laid plans of mice and men eh!  A redrafted PLP sent off to the internet for tutor feedback.  Keeping fingers cross.

PDP PowerPoint Presentation
An informative exercise as fellow comrades with similar outlook advised to combine forces to help each other.   The helpful aid of “Facebook” is already up and running.  This is a small step for some, a giant leap for me.  Where is “Voyeur”?
The next class project is a 5 minute seminar with 3 of my class comrades with information sheet issued by tutor and available on Moodle.
The bad news is the information sheet left behind in class and College Moodle access denied.
The good news suddenly gained Moodle access to BAD3 PDP.  Progress at last yippee! Now I just need access to BAD3 studio practice1now.  Please!!!
The PDP seminar research begins with Greek cuisine and Zorba dancing.  I seem to be developing a research technique eh!
Contextual Studies
Directed study advised by course tutor.  I confirmed directed study with an e-mail to unit tutor.
The mysteries of the Moodle are when I gained Moodle access to BAD2 Contextual Studies and denied BAD3 Studio Practice 1.

This 9 week project begins with creative ideas.  These creative ideas need to be firmed up quickly by personal research.  This research will form the basis for the Brief’s Mood board, Personal Learning Plan (PLP) and detailed time plan that is required for submission on Friday 13th September.  Simple!
