Week ending 10 April 2015 – Friends reunited

Feelings
The beginning of this holiday week was spent catching up with friends and family. A little breathing space for incubation to mull over from the Studio Practice 2 project.  The latter half of the week saw a return to the project.

Evaluation
After a wee break away I was feeling revitalised and inspired to return to the project.  So back to the project we go! Hi ho

Embroidery hoop Machine stitching
The perspiration of the project’s construction continued with the embroidery hoop and random machine stitching of stabiliser.  I accessed a sewing machine with embroidery foot and applied random thread onto plastic soluble stabiliser.

The stabiliser was hung onto the wall and I outlined the acetate imagery with the aid of an overhead projector.   The outline of photographed stabiliser was hand stitched with brown thread embroidery.

The task was completed with inserted tabs at the top and bottom of the stabiliser.  The inserted tabs will allow the insertion of curtain rods.

Visiting GoMA

It was a treat to meet up with my friend as we both enjoy visiting GoMA .  Spending time in the Galley of Modern Art (GoMA) inspired ideas for the project presentation.

Analysis
The lengthy process of stitching the stabiliser has been completed.  I will mount the stabiliser on to the curtain rods at the top and bottom of the stabiliser.  This secure placement of the stabiliser will hopefully secure the work while applying the water.
I need all my courage to apply water to all the plastic soluble stabiliser work.  Fingers crossed that this time it will work.

As alternative solution and/or in addition to the water soluble stabiliser presentation plan I will make use of 3 photographs. The photographic imagery with layers of found papers, Audio recordings accessed via QR coding and layers of void photographic imagery.

I took the opportunity to research possible presentation ideas for the alternative solution and purchase project materials.

Conclusion
The Easter break has given breathing space with the Studio Practice 2.  I have benefited from a different perspective.  The knowledge gained from all the degree project will hopefully result in a positive outcome with the examiners.  Even without this positive outcome I have gained inspiring ideas that I can put into practice after the degree.

Action Plan
The course work continues with the water soluble stabiliser.  As the threaded void outcome might be a failure I have alternative plans that will be set in motion.
Referral of the BAD34 Studio Practice 2 Handbook to ensure the aims and learning outcomes are being met.
Review and update of sketchbook and research folder.
Source quality A3 paper for the 3 dimensional folded memory book.
